Through the exploration of children's literature and using our past experiences and knowledge about adapting to new situations, students will understand that:

Adapting to a new situation or environment takes time

In order to adapt, we must learn about the new environment/situation

People might have to change in order to adapt to a new environment or situation

We will focus on the following skills:


Students will be able to contribute ideas during book club discussions that help group members

understand how characters adapted to new environments or situations


Students will be able to identify 3 common characteristics that the read aloud and

book club books share regarding what it takes to adapt to a new environment or situation


Students will be able to write a multi-paragraph essay about a time the student

or someone they know had to adapt to a new environment utilizing the writing process
